As Election Day, November 4, 2025, approaches, please make sure to utilize the resources Yale provides for civic engagement, including voter registration and participation.

The Office of the Secretary and Vice President for University Life has streamlined resources for student voter registration through the non-partisan, university-wide initiative, Yale Votes, which is dedicated to supporting student voter participation across all schools. Through the Yale Votes website, students can register to vote, check and change their registration, and request an absentee ballot. By partnering with TurboVote, a non-partisan third party platform, Yale Votes provides a step-by-step process that differs depending on how and where a student chooses to vote. You can also choose to register to vote by mail using the National Voter Registration Application Form for U.S. Citizens.

Please review the Voting Resources page for information on candidates and the deadlines map for information regarding deadlines and requirements in each state. These requirements for eligibility include (1) only citizens of the United States may vote in federal elections (18 U.S.C. 611); (2) voting more than once, including voting in two or more states, is prohibited under federal law (52 U.S.C. 10307(e)); (3) knowingly or willfully providing false information including relating to name, address, or period of residence in the voting district for the purpose of establishing eligibility to register or vote is prohibited under federal law (52 U.S.C. 10307(c)); and (4) in most states, individuals may only register to vote where they are domiciled, and they may not be domiciled in more than one place.

This means you may register to vote in Connecticut or your home state and request an absentee ballot. If you live on campus, visit the Mail Information page for more information on where you should have voting mail sent. Please note, voting mail CANNOT be sent to the package center and USPS will label it “return to sender” without a delivery attempt. Notarization for absentee ballots can be obtained at the ID Center at 55 Lock Street.

The deadline to register online to vote in the state of Connecticut is Friday, October 17, 2025. If you submit a Connecticut registration form by mail, it must be postmarked by October 17, 2025. In-person registration is also available up to the day of the election at the Office of the Registrar of Voters, 200 Orange St., New Haven, CT 06510-2696, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
