Yale College has developed a collection of “major roadmaps” to assist students navigate their academic paths.
Purpose of Major Roadmaps
The primary purpose of these roadmaps is to help students understand the structure and requirements of various majors. They provide clear pathways for students to follow, by indicating which courses are necessary and when they should be taken. This is particularly beneficial given that Yale offers over 80 majors, and there is often some complexity to the course requirements .
Design and Features
The major roadmaps are designed to be visually uniform, allowing for easy comparison between different majors. Each roadmap includes:
Course Sequences: A typical sequence of courses that students should take.
Paths Within Majors: Some majors offer multiple paths or specializations, which are highlighted in the roadmaps.
Requirements Overview: A summary of the key requirements needed to complete each major, including prerequisites.
Accessing Major Roadmaps
There is a list and a link to the Roadmaps Library in the Yale College Programs of Study (YCPS). Students can also find detailed written descriptions of the requirements for each major under Subjects of Instruction in YCPS.
