Grade Submission

Grades for Yale College and Graduate courses are entered through the Faculty Grade Submission system (FGS). Only the primary instructor may enter and submit grades for a course. For assistance using the system, see the FGS Instructions.

Grades resolving a Temporary Incomplete mark: To submit a final grade in place of a mark of TI (Temporary Incomplete) for a Yale College student, the course instructor should submit the Grade Change form no later than the date specified on the notice issued by the office of the Residential College Dean.

In the Faculty Grade Submission webpage (https://fgs.app.yale.edu), click the course number, then click “Forms” in the top right and navigate to “Yale College” under “Grade Change Forms.”

Yale College, the Graduate School, and the professional schools have established their grading policies. See “Grade Policies” or refer to the registrar of each school for additional information.

Yale College Academic Calendar with Pertinent Deadlines for Yale College students

Graduate School of Arts and Sciences Academic Dates and Deadlines for students in the Graduate School

Regarding Yale College students enrolled in Graduate and Professional School courses:

  • Faculty of Graduate and Professional School courses should note that if they accept any Yale College students into their course the Yale College grading deadlines apply for those students.
  • Instructors of courses in the Graduate School and the professional schools are expected to use the Yale College grading system when they report grades for undergraduates who have completed their courses.
  • The deadlines and regulations of Yale College are binding on all students, including candidates for the simultaneous award of the bachelor’s and master’s degrees, in regard to courses in which they are enrolled in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and the professional schools.
    • These include the deadlines and regulations pertaining to withdrawal from courses, late or postponed work, and work incomplete at the end of term.
    • An exception to a deadline may be made in a course offered in a professional school of the University in which the academic calendar differs from that of Yale College.
    • A request for such an exception must be grounded in compelling academic reasons, and must be made in writing by the instructor of the course to the student’s residential college dean in advance of the deadline in question.
