After add/drop period closes, the Course Drop/Course Adjustment form opens. Yale College students use this form to drop a course. There is a $5 fee.
The form is also used to switch a discussion section associated with a lecture (based on seat availability), change course levels (a change of level in courses in which the subject is taught in an ordered progression, for example in languages or mathematics), or request a change of section (e.g., from a course’s section 01 to 02, etc.). For these changes, there are no fees.
To use the Course Drop/Course Adjustment form efficiently, students should be aware of the following:
- Students do not need to drop the lecture in order to switch discussion sections. They will be prompted to provide backup choices for courses with a mandatory discussion/lab section. If they only select one discussion/lab section and that section is full, the request will be denied.
- Students should be aware of the total credits for which they are registered so they don’t drop below 3.5 credits.
- If students are adding a late course, they may need to drop a course first to avoid going over 5.5 credits.
- Only one course can be dropped per form.
- Once a course is dropped or added, the action will be recorded in real time to the Degree Audit, but it could take up to two hours before students see the change.
- Degree Audit may need to be refreshed using the tool at top of the page before changes will be visible.
